    The Loss of A Legend

Bob Hope has died…a great loss to the entertainment industry and to all of those who’ve been watching him over so many years.

All of the shows that he’d done over the years…especially for the troops overseas, have been quite entertaining indeed.

He died at his home surrounded by his family…only two months after turning 100 years old.  I don’t know if I’d want to live so long…but I know that I wouldn’ t mind having my family around when I left this earth.  Unfortunatly he’d suffered from pnuemonia…but I’m glad that he suffered no longer.

For many years Bob made us laugh with his warm personality and wonderful sense of humor.  The king of “one liners” was most certainly one of Hollywoods legends.

So, “thanks for the memories” Bob.

  • Sunburn = Child Abuse???

Apparently a teacher at my son’s school tends to think so!

Yesterday, my Mom sent a note with my son stating that if they were going to be in the wading pool that he would need to keep a shirt on due to a sunburn that he has on his left shoulder…and she included an extra shirt for this very reason.

A few minutes after my son stepped off the bus and into the house, a police officer showed up at my front door!  He told my Mom that the teacher had reported child abuse to Child Services regarding the “burn” on Caleb’s shoulder!

The police officer was very nice and after seeing the “burn” stated that it was clearly a sunburn and not an afflicted burn. (well duh)

After the officer left the house, my Mom called me at work to tell me what had just happened.  I was floored!  Since when is a sunburn (clearly a sunburn) a form of child abuse???  And why, (for the love of God) did this substitute teacher not contact me first regarding this matter before reporting me to Child Services claiming that I’ve abused my son??!

I’m still beyond angry about this matter…I know that everything is “okay” legally as far as any questions regarding whether or not I abuse my child, BUT…my parental rights have been violated and the thought of ANYONE (especially a teacher) thinking for a second that I would ever intentionally injure one of my children (especially Caleb) drives me insane!  It’s completely absurd!!  I would NEVER!!

Even with all that my Jonah does…I would still never purposely “injure” him.  In fact, I sent him to his Dad’s so that I wouldn’t have to discipline him SO much!

What is wrong with people now and days, when they can’t even call the parent and inquire about something as simple as a sunburn?  That they feel the necessity to report the parent to Child Services instead?

I don’t understand…but what I DO understand is that this teacher may not be teaching much longer.  Parents have rights too…and dammit, I’m a GOOD Mom!

    UPDATE

    11:15am

My Mom went in and talked to the substitute teacher this morning and found out that it wasn’t her that reported to Child Services…it was a man who is a visiting Speech Therapist from the district!  He was VERY rude to my Mom and refused to call and speak with me!

He stated that if I wanted to converse with him that I would have to come down to the school to do so.  (hello…idiot)  He also stated that he didn’t need to explain his reasons for calling Child Services to my Mom or anyone for that matter!  He said that the cause of the “burn” was not clear (apparently he can’t read AND is BLIND!).

My Mom (I’m proud of her for not killing him) handled herself quite well and did manage to get his business card with his information on it.  I will be contacting my son’s Case Manager (appointed to him by the school and state) regarding this incident and will be filing a complaint (and whatever else I can file)!!

Apparently the man that made the call didn’t even inform the main teacher that he was doing so, she was in shock when my Mom told her this morning.

    What a LOSER!

  • Thank you all for your kind words regarding my situation with Jonah.  He seemed a bit calmer this morning after spending the weekend with his Dad…so I think that maybe some needed extra time with his Dad may just do the trick!  I hope.

Today I would like to say a very special Happy Birthday to an incredible person who, unfortunately, is no longer with us here on earth.  My dear friend Peter.

If Peter would’ve have lived, he’d have turned 22 today.  I lost him almost two years ago in a tragic car accident.  I miss him still.

Anyway…Happy 22nd m’dear…I love you and I miss you, but you shall remain alive always …in my heart.

  • Anyone want a 4 year old?

I’ve been a Mom for 11 years now and I thought that I’ve dealt with my fair share of childlike antics…however, I’m at a point where I just don’t know what to do anymore in regards to my son Jonah.

Now, keep in mind that my twin boys (Caleb & Jonah) are as opposite as they could possibly be.  Caleb is so calm and peaceful (most of the time) and easily entertains himself.  He is very loving and rarely bothers a soul.

Jonah, on the other hand, while he CAN be a loving child and I believe that he truly has a good heart…just does not make good decisions when it comes to knowing right from wrong.  I know that he understands the difference, he just chooses not to make the correct choice.  Now some of you are saying, “but he’s only 4″…yup, you’re right, he IS only 4…but he is also very intelligent and advanced for his age.

So I’ve decided that before he burns down the house, injures himself or one of his siblings…that he should try spending more time with his father.  So he will be staying with my ex for the majority of his time until next month when school starts.  I think that if I can see whether or not he is continuing to behave in the same manner for his dad then maybe we can come up with a solution, or if he isn’t doing the same things with his dad, maybe I can figure out why.

I don’t know…all I DO know is that I love him…but I’m so beyond frustrated that I don’t know what else to do right now.

  • 84 days to go!!

Well…as I’d stated a while ago, I have some wedding updates for you.

We finally booked our trip out to Las Vegas for the wedding/honeymoon!!  That’s a BIG relief!  We will be in Sin City for 4 nights/5 days!!  I’m hoping that we will get a chance to take a trip down to the Hoover Dam while we’re out there.  That would definitely be a cool site to see!

We still have to pay for the ceremony itself…but that will be taken care of in the next month.

I’ve made a couple of changes since I last posted about the wedding.  For one thing, we chose a different wedding announcement…in other words, I found one that was less expensive.

This one is closer to the what we were originally looking for.  I love the petal vellum wrap and I will be able to print them myself.  Not a problem considering we are only sending out about 25 or so.

I also found this wedding album and just thought that it was wonderful!

children's and young miss shoes, ballet shoes, and handbags from Saugus Shoe at WeddingAccessories.net

After looking at numerous pairs of shoes, I decided that I wanted/needed something that will be very comfortable and that with my gown the way it is…I don’t need to have a shoe with a heel.  So I bought these!

I had my oldest daughter (Dora) help me look though TONS of different types of shoes and she helped pick these out.

I had Jason pick out the garter…considering he will wind up with it after the wedding.  Of course he picked a purple one.

We also decided to register at a couple of places…there are a few things that we don’t have that it would be nice to own.

So as you can see, things are coming together now and Jason and I are getting very excited!!

P.S. ~ Thanks to all of you who’ve stopped by our wedding site and signed out guestbook!!

  • One last thought…

I agree that Simon was just probably attempting to get a laugh…however, and maybe it’s just my nature…I do think that no matter what the circumstances are, that people shouldn’t attempt a joke at risk of harm to another person.  Ya know?

Anyway, that’s my MOM speech for this morning! So deal with it!! HA!

    Moving on…

Sorry that I haven’t been around much lately this weekend.  An old friend of mine was married on Saturday evening and so Jason and I gathered up the children and took a road trip up to Longmont (about 50 miles northwest from our house) for the ceremony and festivities.

We did get a bit off track on our way there, mainly because I got confused (not a difficult thing for me to do lately), but we made it there…about 15 minutes late.

I was able to see the bride and groom exchange their vows and rings before the children decided to start making noise.  So I thought it best to just meet them over at the reception and save them from having to be interrupted by my rambunctious offspring.

As we were attempting to pull out of the driveway, the ceremony had ended and my friend and his new bride came strolling around the corner and spotted me.  I couldn’t very well leave after that…so I stopped and rolled down my window as he came over to say hello.  I explained the situation to him and told him that we’d see him at the reception. He is a very calm, laid back sort of person…so this was not a big deal to him by any means.  However, I was a bit embarrassed to say the least.

We drove over to their new home for the reception and once they arrived we all gathered inside and on the back porch.  It was a small intimate wedding with only 20 guests or so…in which having the reception at their house was a perfect location.

The reception was lovely and it was nice to see some people that I’ve not seen in years.  I just wish that we could’ve stayed a while longer, but Jonah (my youngest twin) was not about to allow me to do that.  I was not pleased at all with his behavior…and expressed as much after departing the scene.

All in all it was a splendid event and the couple seems to be quite happy…which of course makes me very happy for them.

I will try to get around to visiting all of you VERY soon…but until then…take care!

  • Sausage race turns serious

Bucs’ Simon interrogated after striking runner

MILWAUKEE — Pittsburgh first baseman Randall Simon was interrogated by the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department after a strange incident in which he struck a participant in the popular sausage race during Wednesday’s game between the Brewers and Pirates.

The race, which takes place after the sixth inning, features runners wearing costumes of various sausages — bratwurst, hot dog, Polish and Italian. As the runners passed the Pittsburgh dugout, Simon hit the Italian sausage with his baseball bat, perhaps harder than anticipated.

The woman wearing the Italian costume (on the left in photo above) collided with the female runner in the hot dog costume. Both fell and were taken to a Miller Park first aid center for treatment.

“It was hard to see from the angle, but whether it was intentional or joking, the outrageous conduct remains,” said Rick Schlessinger, Brewers executive vice president/business operations. “I was shocked. I was sick to my stomach. It was a very distressing thing to happen.”

Officials from the sheriff’s department, which provides security at Brewers games, questioned Simon in the Pittsburgh clubhouse. The interrogation was later moved to another part of the stadium and, eventually, Simon was taken from the park.

“They were doing the sausage race. He hit her with the baseball bat,” said Deputy Inspector Sherry Warichak. “When he hit her, that other character fell.

“They both were treated at the scene for scraped knees, but at this point I don’t think they have any other complaints,” she said.

Simon drew boos from fans when he was used as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning. He grounded out and that’s the only playing time he saw.

“It’s very strange — live and learn. Unfortunately, that’s what life is all about,” said teammate Reggie Sanders.

Sanders said he thought the weight of the head on the sausage costume, plus the strike with the bat, may have been harder than anticipated.

“It maybe made to look worse than it was,” Sanders said. “It was an unfortunate situation and, hopefully, it gets resolved.”

Manager Lloyd McClendon said he would wait to comment.

Dan Hart of the Pittsburgh media relations department said, “At this point in time, other than to say it’s in the hands of the authorities, we have no comment. Until we get more information, that’s all we have.”

“It’s difficult for me to put into words the anger that I feel and the sense of outrage. My concern, and the organization’s concern right now, is to make sure the girls who are the victims are OK.”

Okay…all I have to say is…what in the HELL was Simon thinking??  I mean, c’mon…what in the world would possess someone to do that?  *shakes head*

  • I have a few things to share with you!

First of all, there has been a new addition to our family that I’ve neglected to tell you about for weeks now.

So, without further ado…please meet Ginger!!

    Adorable isn’t she?!

She had belonged to my ex-husband, but he was unable to care for her properly, so I told him that I would take her for him.  She fits in quite well and enjoys having Rusty as a playmate and being able to run and play in our huge backyard!!

Second, I must share the events of my birthday with you!!

The evening before my birthday, Jason decided to present me with these…

…along with a lovely bottle of champagne and a dozen hand dipped chocolate covered strawberries!! My 3 favorite things!!

I tell you, that fiance of mine is the greatest!!  I’m totally spoiled…and I love it!!

Now, when Jason asked me what I wanted for my b-day I told him fireworks and my favorite things.  So, he’d already given me my favorite things…and then he took me to see this…

If you would like to see the rest of the photos I took on my b-day…click here!

    We had a BLAST!!

We went out to a movie earlier in the day and then out to eat…and then over to Coors Field to see the Rockies take on the Diamondbacks!!

We just happened to be seated in a section of the park that had to be relocated for the fireworks show…relocated onto the FIELD that is!  So we sat right down in the middle of the grass in right field and watched an awesome display of fireworks!

    It was great!

We didn’t go to a fireworks show for Independence Day, but…that’s because we are able to see three different ones from our deck!!  It’s great living on a hill!! hehe

Third…I have added some photos of items onto our wedding site, so if you’d like to check those out, you’re welcome to do so!

I hope that you all are having a lovely weekend!
