WARNING
severe rant ahead
What happens when you have 1 THUG and 1 hockey player???
THIS!
Result?
the hockey player now has a severe concussion and a broken neck…
the THUG…indefinite suspension and pending criminal investigation…
things that make you go HMMMM…
I saw this game and the incident above…let me tell you, what ocurred was NO accident! Todd Bertuzzi came up from behind Steve Moore and gave him a right hook to the side of his head and then proceeded to grab him by his jersey and thrust him to the ice slamming his head directly into the ice. Can you say malicious act? This has now resulted into a criminal investigation.
“Moore was a marked man in Vancouver after his open-ice hit in a February 16 game sidelined Canucks captain Markus Naslund. He fought Matt Cooke in the first period Monday before he was attacked from behind by Bertuzzi, who has been suspended by the NHL pending a hearing Wednesday in Toronto.”
“The investigation is the result of several complaints that came from citizens,” police said in a statement. “The investigation will be a standard assault investigation. It will include interviewing everyone involved and gathering all available information.”
According to mister Bertuzzi this was an accident and he was sorry that it happened.
Umm…right…yeah, I totally believe that….NOT.
I’m sorry…but a player purposely blind sides another player…it’s not an accident. Challenging another player in hockey is a common affair…and expected. Viciously attacking another player from behind is assault. Plain and simple.
I was listening to people on the radio this morning discussing this incident and one caller stated that “this is just all part of hockey…this IS hockey”…the caller who said that, obvioulsy doesn’t know a damn thing about hockey. Yes, players do know that this is a dangerous sport…and expect to get injured at some point…and expect to have uncalled for hits put on them..but Moore had already had one fight with a Canuck player earlier in the game…and I’m sure that he thought that this so called “bounty” that had been put on him was ended with that fight…but apparently Todd Bertuzzi didn’t get that memo.
I love hockey…I respect the game and the players, but I don’t see how this attack has a place in the game or how a player like Bertuzzi (who is a well known THUG across the league) has a place in this game either. Steve Moore is young and has only played 69 games in the NHL…he now may have ended his career…is that fair? I don’t think so…not when his career would be ending because of a stupid decision by a well known THUG.

I did not know about this story but just looking at their photos I knew which one was going to be the thug . He should be made to pay Moore is lost playing money as well as any punishment
Man, what a F*$% chop!!! He deserves to be charged!!! I hope he does get a criminal charge. Too bad you don’t go to jail for something like that!! Aggravated Assault. Grr… people like that make me mad!! I don’t watch the sport, but I can also tell who was going to be the attacker!! How awful for the young guy!!
Peace

steve guy is kinda sexy.
have a good day!!!!!!
Yeah that pissed me off so bad. I hate Bertuzzi. I was reading comments on espn.com, and this guy was like I don’t think Todds intentions were bad at the time, he didn’t intend to injure Moore. Its like yeah right, that act was so premeditated. I mean punching someone from behind then pushing them face first to the ice and expecting them not to get hurt. I know it was not an accident, but I actually do believe Bertuzzi is sorry. I mean hes really dirty, and he premeditated the act, but he was frustrated, and I guess he wasn’t thinking straight and didn’t think the player would get that hurt, I mean its prety obvious that the player would get that hurt, but i guess when you are not thinking striaght you make bad decisions.
However I think he should be charged criminally becuase that is assault. Along with being suspended atleast the rest of the year, he should learn his lesson.
Also the Canucks said they were going to do something like this before the game, and the league did nothing about it. The coach even encoraged this type of behavior he should have to pay too.
THis is NOT hockey. I don’t get how anyone can say that. Yes hockey can be a violent game, but this was an apparent intent to injure. When players fight i don’t think they really try to intentionaly injure the other player, well maybe they do, i don’t know its just in the heat of battle something you do to stick up for your team. But this was not in the heat of battle, he was obviously thinking about doing this before he did it.
Someone left a note on my diary saying they felt worse for Bertuzzi than Moore, what the heck. that made no sense.
It just sucks that hockey gets such a bad image, becuase its such a great game, the only thing that gets coverage are things like this. People dont actually sit down and watch how exciting it is.
Haha there is my rant sorry that was long.
i agree with you totally.
I have to say I saw the shot and it was totally MEANT and NOT an accident NOT BY A LONG SHOT!!! I hope that the guy can heal and not be paralyzed for life….
Take care and I hope you have a good night,
Tina
Hey Maria, you wouldn’t mind doing me a favor please, would ya? I really, really wanted a copy of the RMN and the Denver Post today but I didn’t have money to get one. I want to put these in my scrapbook of stuff about this year. Could you see if you could track me down one of each (today’s 10 March) especially if you get them? Pleeease?? It’s hard to find any on campus, but I’ll be looking. Thanks… talk to you later!!
I used to love ice hockey, but we don’t have it in Australia and get very minimal coverage of it on TV. It’s not the same on TV anyway.
I find it hard to believe that anyone would premeditate to go into an opponent with the intention of breaking his neck. In any contact sport emotions can run high, and they are buff heads out there that feel that they can bully other players. I’ve played. I’ve been attacked for no reason and I have attacked for no apparent reason.
Things are always different on the ice in that moment. Yes, he is a buffhead, and yes, he should be suspended, but I doubt that it will change anything for anyone else.
