  • Columbine Remembered

    Today marks the 5th anniversary of the Columbine High School Shootings here in Littleton, CO.  I will never forget that day or what I was doing when the news broke that children were being gunned down in their high school.  My heart sank…I knew some of those kids…some of whom died that day.  I will never forget them or the effect that those events have had on our community and the families of those involved.

    Since this tragedy I’ve met many of the parents of those who died.  Rachel Scott’s grave is just down the street from my house…and that is where the 13 crosses now stand.  I met her Mother, Beth Nimmo, a few years ago…along with a few other parents.  The overwhelming sense of loss and sadness that came from them was heartbreaking.

    If you have a moment, say a prayer for those families and those who were wounded that day.  A great deal of healing has occured since 4/20/99, but the memories of that day will last forever to those of us who were here.

    15 people were killed, including Eric Harris & Dylan Klebold who took their own lives after killing 13 others

    15 original crosses on Rebel Hill in Clements Park next to Columbine High School

    13 crosses that remained after the ones for Eric & Dylan were destroyed

    Crosses for Dylan Klebold, top, and Eric Harris stand on Rebel Hill near Columbine just days after the shootings. The family of one of the slain students destroyed them, saying it was wrong to honor such evil.

    Memorials are being held tonight at Clements Park in remembrance of that day and those who were lost.

  • I remember that well. I sat in my living room crying when it came across the news. So terrible. I can not believe that it has been 5 years already. Seems like yesterday.

    and many {{{hugs}}}

  • wow….what a great post and a great rememberance! good job!!!!!

  • I remember it well too.  I was living in my old house watching the news feeds all night.

    Rachel Scott’s sister came and spoke at our school and did a little memorium for all the people who were killed.

    We played a song at graduation by Frank Ticheli called “An American Elegy” dedicated to the people who died @ Columbine.  It made us all break up in tears.  We barely got through the song.

  • Patrick Ireland… my friend Ashley’s cousin. I wonder how he is doing.

    I know quite a few people who were there. Sometimes they talk about it, sometimes they don’t. I still find it so chilling.

  • Yeah that was so sad, threw xanga i met a girl that went to that school, and i just can’t imagine such a horrible thing.

  • I too remember watching the horror of that day . It must be hard for the town to have come to terms with that day

  • Prayer sent Maria!

    Thank you, thank you for posting these pictures. Although they are hard to look at, we all need to remember that terrible tragedy always.  Maybe if we remember the past, it will change the future for the better. {{{hugs}}}

  • Wow, we never got all those images over here. So touching, I’m nearly in tears just from those pics. I still remember hearing about it too. I was still in school at the time, and it really touched all of us over here. How did these kids do this to the others? I mean by the time we got to how old they were, as a year we were knitting together beautifully, and the whole year was friends with each other. And 5 whole years already. WOW. Many prayers to the families of the fallen. including the families of the two boys. Although the boys were evil, doesn’t mean the rest of their families were, and they have suffered also.

    Peace and love and many blessings.

  • This is one of the biggest reasons I don’t own guns nor do I ever want to. I put up a tribute of my own, with a free verse poem I wrote that night. Hopefully things like this wont be forgotten and we can be aware of the hidden problems many of these kids are going through. I know its not an easy problem to solve. But as a parent myself, I know I need to be aware.

  • Very powerful my love…
