Just when I thought things were calming down a bit…
Wait…who am I kidding? Things will never calm down at my work!
I was informed this morning that I will be taking on even more in the Personnel department.
So, I told my boss that the only way that I would even consider doing it is if they give me a minimum of $10k annual increase in pay. He agreed…although I won’t believe anything until I see it on my bank deposit slip and in my account!
I can’t believe that I’m still being dumped on. I guess that’s the hazard of being very good at what you do eh? I guess…but it’s annoying as hell at times.
See, the main reason that they are transferring all of this H/R related work onto me is that they don’t want the old Payroll Clerk (who is currently out on maternity leave) to have a job to come back to. So they are making it so that the only thing that she would still have to do is actually process people’s hours and cut the checks. However, considering her current salary is about $40k, this would also give them a good reason to re-evaluate her position and cut her pay considerably. She won’t go for that…she’ll quit I’m sure, but if she does stay…she’ll be making a great deal less that what she is currently.
Sound harsh? I’m sure it does. However, she hasn’t been doing her job and has created more problems that she has good while working here. She is very controlling and is also a very nasty person…nasty meaning that she won’t hesitate to go off on anyone who she feels is in the wrong…whether it’s regarding anything that directly effects her or not. She sends out insulting emails to people and has an attitude about everything. Not a good working environment. So, the management has just devised a way to accomplish what they want….getting rid of her or taking control away from her…and finally getting done what they need to have done. Hence forth turning over the majority of the workload to me. They justified this by stating that since I already take care of all of the personnel files, that it would only seem right that I take care of all of the related personnel records. This includes entering the new employees into the system and labeling their skill levels and departments.
It’s all related…which is why they can do it. However, she is going to be beyond angry when she returns. When I first took over personnel, I made immediate changes as to how all of our forms are issued and handled. More convenience to our field offices and less maintenance for me to upkeep. It seemed only logical. Although, it’s not the way things have been done before…so, some people don’t like change and fight it every step of the way. She is one of those people….unfortunately.
Anyway, this whole thing wasn’t my idea and to be honest…I don’t know if I even feel that it’s ethical, but…considering I’m not management and I don’t make those decisions, all I can do is my job…and that’s whatever they make it out to be. Besides, the way I see this is that if they are willing to meet my demands pay wise…then I can certainly do what they need to be done. That’s the whole point right?

I’m so glad you stood up for yourself baby. As for this other person, she’ll reap what she’s sewn.
I love you!

I don’t blame you for asking for more money. After all, they are putting more work on you. Work that you should be paid for. I would not worry about the other girl when she returns. Just like you said, they are looking for a way to get rid of her and this just might be the reason.
Here we have laws against this ,. you have to come back to the same job and pay unless you want to change ie work part time . I would want the$10,000 on mycontract before I start any more work
wow….jobs can suck but at least you are thought of and they know you can handle such a task…but still no relief in the amount of work you currently are having to do now….. good luck
a man walked into my kitchen today. rofl. sorry i just had to laugh. anyway. here is the funny part. he said something intelligent. rofl. ( i thought my man hating days were behind me. ) anyway. what he said. he does route work. delivering food to restaurants. but he just takes as needed routes. for when there is extra work. or when someone calls in. because when he did a regular route. he was so good at it. they would put extra stuff on him. he ended by saying. the faster and better i got. the more work i got. at the same pay. it wasn’t worth it.
and it hit home today. the better i get. the less help i get. even when it is very important that i get it. grrrr.
That’s actually the job I always wanted, in Human Resources. I hope they pay you the 10K more a year.
Ahhh…the world of work
I got the computer today…thanks!! And…called in to work on my off day. I’ll gripe about it some at my log.
Thanks for everything!
Whoah De Ja Vu. seriously. the last few times I’ve been to your site I think you’ve mentioned that they want to give you more work (yeah I haven’t been round much either) Hope you get the extra money if you do it.
Oh and I drive a 1979 Honda Accord. Piece of shit really, but it goes, and gets me where I want not just where I need, so it’s pretty good.
Peace and love

I hope the extra work will not be too much to bear. The extra money will help but keep in mind your health and sanity are the most important thing.
