  • Just when I thought things were calming down a bit…

Wait…who am I kidding?  Things will never calm down at my work!

I was informed this morning that I will be taking on even more in the Personnel department.  So, I told my boss that the only way that I would even consider doing it is if they give me a minimum of $10k annual increase in pay.  He agreed…although I won’t believe anything until I see it on my bank deposit slip and in my account!

I can’t believe that I’m still being dumped on.  I guess that’s the hazard of being very good at what you do eh?  I guess…but it’s annoying as hell at times.  See, the main reason that they are transferring all of this H/R related work onto me is that they don’t want the old Payroll Clerk (who is currently out on maternity leave) to have a job to come back to.  So they are making it so that the only thing that she would still have to do is actually process people’s hours and cut the checks.  However, considering her current salary is about $40k, this would also give them a good reason to re-evaluate her position and cut her pay considerably.  She won’t go for that…she’ll quit I’m sure, but if she does stay…she’ll be making a great deal less that what she is currently.

Sound harsh? I’m sure it does.  However, she hasn’t been doing her job and has created more problems that she has good while working here.  She is very controlling and is also a very nasty person…nasty meaning that she won’t hesitate to go off on anyone who she feels is in the wrong…whether it’s regarding anything that directly effects her or not.  She sends out insulting emails to people and has an attitude about everything.  Not a good working environment.  So, the management has just devised a way to accomplish what they want….getting rid of her or taking control away from her…and finally getting done what they need to have done.  Hence forth turning over the majority of the workload to me.  They justified this by stating that since I already take care of all of the personnel files, that it would only seem right that I take care of all of the related personnel records.  This includes entering the new employees into the system and labeling their skill levels and departments.

It’s all related…which is why they can do it.  However, she is going to be beyond angry when she returns.  When I first took over personnel, I made immediate changes as to how all of our forms are issued and handled.  More convenience to our field offices and less maintenance for me to upkeep.  It seemed only logical.  Although, it’s not the way things have been done before…so, some people don’t like change and fight it every step of the way.  She is one of those people….unfortunately.

Anyway, this whole thing wasn’t my idea and to be honest…I don’t know if I even feel that it’s ethical, but…considering I’m not management and I don’t make those decisions, all I can do is my job…and that’s whatever they make it out to be.  Besides, the way I see this is that if they are willing to meet my demands pay wise…then I can certainly do what they need to be done.  That’s the whole point right?

  • Finally…A Day of Relaxation

Now that’s something that you don’t hear from me often eh?

‘Tis true though…yesterday was actually a nice day of just hanging out with my hubby and relaxing.  We went out for breakfast…took the lightrail to the ballpark…took in a game of baseball (throughout which I was constantly checking the scoreboard that was on the side of the ballpark which was giving the Avs/Sharks scores…hey, I’m a hockey fan…what can I say?).  We sat and watched the  play a wonderful game against the …ate a hotdog (Jason had a braut), we shared a beer…and just relaxed.  It was nice!!

The Avs were just going into OT when the baseball game ended and by the time we’d walked out of the ballpark we heard the crowds in downtown Denver cheering and screaming.  At that point I realized that the Avs had scored in OT and won!!  It was a very nice ending to a wonderful day!!

We got back on the lightrail and headed back to our car.  We stopped by the store on the way home and picked up some food for dinner (which neither of us were ready to eat at this point even though it was almost dinner time) and headed home.  Jason started wrapping up his studies and I went and lounged a bit.  Yup…I said “lounged”!!  Ya know…that’s a pretty foreign word to me…but it was certainly nice to do!

Anyway…we didn’t eat dinner until late…and then I dozed off not much there after.

Wanna hear something funny?  Here’s how weird it is to live in Colorado.  When we were on our way to the ballpark…we waited about 15 minutes for the lightrail, standing outside.  It was only about 58° F and in that time…I got sunburn on my forehead!! Yes…SUNBURN!  Can you believe that?  Only in Colorado.

Today…I haven’t done much either.  I’ve been reading a bit…surfing the web a little and pretty much just taking it easy. Yes, I’m actually following my doctors orders…for once. HA!

Jason did some studying, but then headed off to work around 3:30pm.  No kids this weekend so…I’m all alone.  Alone time…hmm…that’s another thing that’s not common around here.  Not that you’ll hear me complaining mind you.

So…tomorrow it’s back to work for me.  The kids will come home in the morning and the chaos and hustle of the household will also return.  But for now, I’m enjoying the silence and soft noise of my fingers tapping the keys on the keyboard as I type this.

I do want to say “thank you” to my wonderful husband for sharing such a nice day with me….I love you honey!

I hope that you’ve all had a nice weekend…and I shall see you again soon.
