  • Day 21 of Give Thanks

Last night when I arrived at home…I was greeted by my beautiful golden retriever…Rusty.

As I pulled into the driveway and opened the garage door, he came bounding out to meet me at my car with a huge smile on his fury little face!!  I love being welcomed home like that!!

Now…y’all must understand that I love my dog for MANY reasons…as I’m sure that all pet owners have many reasons for loving their pets…but, Rusty is VERY special mainly because he belonged to my Dad.

When Dad died in June of 1998…my brother got his car…and well, I got Rusty.  (I got the better deal…TRUST me )  Rusty wasn’t even a year old when I brought him out to Colorado to live with me and had never been around babies before.  He had a crash course in what occurs when a 9 month old gets a hold of doggy ears!! (poor thing)

Anyway, Rusty adapted to our family quite quickly…but for some reason he never really did care for my ex-husband very much.  In fact, he still doesn’t like him all that well.

For a while I thought that Rusty just didn’t want anything to do with males.  That was until Jason moved out here in July.  Boy did Rusty shoot THAT theory full of holes!!!

He immediately took a HUGE liking to Jason and has now claimed Jason as his very own Pet Human!!  Yep…he even ranks over me now!! (no fair I tell ya)

Rusty is Jason’s very own alarm clock…blanket…pillow…playmate…and fury companion!!  Rusty’s favorite place in the whole world… is lying in between Jason and I on our bed…with his head upon the pillow of course!

He is pretty much my oldest son…so to speak.  However…he thinks that Jason is HIS!!  We have talks about that daily!

So…I’m VERY thankful to have my wonderful furry friend in my life!!

Tell me…do y’all have pets?  Do they claim you as much as you claim them?

    Have a wonderful Thursday!!

    ~Maria

P.S. ~ Thanks for sharing some of your Christmas gift traditions with me…that was very cool!!

  • Aaaww, what a sweet looking puppy! I have 3 cats, with 3 very different personalities and I love them all for their differences.

  • Although I don’t have any pets right now…I grew up with cats and dogs…they do have personality and likes and dislikes…I wouldn’t trust a person that a dog didn’t like!  ~Spot~

  • What an adorable Doggy!!!!!!!! My dog liked to lay right across my neck, and if any one trys to touch me while he is lying there, he will growl at them! hehe kinda cute!

  • We love dogs too. Hope you have a great day..

  • He is so cute! And i do believe you got the better of the deal.. yes!  He looks like he has some Irish Setter in him too. What a sweety!

I don’t have any pets now… and it’s the first time in my life that I DO NOT have any. We built a new home and decided it will stay animal free.   (We’ll see how long that lasts)

  • Wickgal:  He is red isn’t he? hehe

Actually, believe it or not…he IS a purebred golden retriever…spots on the tongue, papers and all!

  • my sister has two dogs.  and our neighbor used to have a dog.

if i could train a dog to bark only when i want or need him/her to.. then i think i’d have a dog.  as it is, we have two cats.  and that’s plenty for us. :)

  • ‘xcuse me., forgot to do the eprops thingy the first time. :D

  • animals seem to be drawn to certain people

  • I have enjoyed reading all of your days of THANKS, especially todays.  As a new dog owner, I’d have to say that my pup would rank very high on my list of things to be thankful for.

  • I have two permanant babies of the canine persuasion and one foster (a golden retriever that had been shot and hit by a car on purpose). Just posted pictures of them yesterday. There is nothing in my world that I would rather have around me than my dogs.

  • Hi RUSTY!!! ::waves like a goon::
oh, I’m a sucker for dogs…a total, goobery sucker.  About him not liking your ex?  Well…animals are intuitive…very, very intuitive.  I trust their judgement.  He sounds wise indeed.

I just wanted to stop by and thank you for subbing and for leaving such sweet comments for me every day!  It’s awesome, I’ll tell ya!  And…ack…you were born the year I graduated from Highschool…oof…wanders off rubbing aching back.

    see ya around, MJ!

  • He is just adorable
